Gambel's Partridge, or Gambel's Quail, is a small ground bird usually found in the desert regions of Arizona, California, Utah, Texas, and other Southwestern states. This bird is named after William Gambel, the 19th-century naturalist who explored and documented much of the American Southwest. Gambel's Partridge has blue-gray plumage on much of its body, long, featherless legs, and short, rounded wings. It can be easily identified by its top knots and scaly underside plumage. This ground-dwelling bird moved about mostly by walking and running. Any flight is typically short and explosive, with speedy wingbeats followed by a slow glide landing.
