The American House Finch is a medium-sized finch native to western North America, and has been introduced to the eastern half of the continent as well as Hawaii. Adults typically have a long brown tail and brown-gray wings, with streaked breast and belly plumage. The heads of adult males are usually reddish, but vary intensely with the seasons. This birds feeds on berries and fruits and nests in openings in buildings, hanging plants, and other outdoor cavities.
