About us
Arader Galleries proudly celebrates over 50 years in the business of important, antique works on paper, paintings and rare books.
Josephine Arader
Director of Arader Galleries, California.
Josephine is passionate about the tradition of Natural Historians throughout European and American History. She believes that there is a strong correlation between the Natural Historians of the past and our current understanding of and relationship with the Natural World. The watercolors, color plate books and cartographic works that were produced by natural historians from the 16th-19th Centuries can give us a poignant understanding of the times from which they originate as they bring the past into the present with vivid power.
Josephine sits on the board of The Natural History Institute, which provides leadership and resources for a revitalized practice of natural history that integrates art, science, and humanities to promote the health and well-being of humans and the rest of the natural world.
She has acted as the Treasurer of the Antiques Dealers Association of California and is regularly called on to vet works on paper at Antique Shows and has served as a judge for botanical art shows. Her clients are a mix of private individuals and foundations.

Graham Arader
Founder of Arader Galleries
W. Graham Arader III began his collection of rare maps, atlases and Americana while an undergraduate at Yale University, and today that passion has grown into one of the world’s largest privately held collections of natural history artwork. Our mission is one of constant discovery and enlightenment for our community of friends, clients, educators, students, and colleagues; as such works of art can give the most poignant understanding of the times from which they originate. To us, nothing is more enthralling than a map, a document, a book or a painting that literally and figuratively illustrates history, bringing the past into the present with vivid power. The works included in this website and in our galleries exemplify such paragons of past eras. While they encompass a vast range of time and subject matter, they share an outstanding level of significance that has grown over the decades and centuries following their emergence. Whether they illuminate great turning points in history, memorialize landscapes of visions of destiny, or serve as breakthroughs in natural history, all of these pieces represent moments of unprecedented innovation or beauty. For the quality of timeless, unparalleled brilliance, they continue to resonate today more strongly than ever, and serve as inspiration for all of us in this dynamic and vital field.
Our galleries are located in Saint Helena, New York and Philadephia. Each is open to the public daily and by private appointment.
It is our intention to sell the highest level of quality at a price lower than anyone else. We encourage comparison and using us to define levels of condition, quality of color and degrees of restoration
