Philadelphia, 1740-60.

This handsome side chair bears many of the hallmarks of Queen Anne seating furniture of mid-18th century Philadelphia: the dipped and molded crestail centers a well-shaped vase form backsplat, and the rounded corners of the seatrail hold a slip seat; the interior rear rail is marked II, indicating that the chair was once part of a larger set. The whole is raised on cabriole legs ending in soft slipper feet which are distinguished
by carved raised panels.
