Painter, sculptor, etcher. Born in Moscow, Russia on January 9th, 1880. Zim (originally Zimmerman) immigrated to the U.S. with his family in 1885. He studied at the NAD and ASL in NYC, and at Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. After his Paris studies, he worked in New York until 1910. By August on 1911 he was in San Diego where he and Maurice Braun opened the San Diego Academy of Art. He maintained studios in Los Angeles from 1914-16, and then in Santa Barbara until the mid-1920s when he returned to the East to work in NYC and Boston. Zim died in New York on November 4th, 1963. As well as an artist, he was also a writer of poetry and music.
