Queen Anne Walnut Side Chairs: With arched cresting, lappet knees and slipper feet
Philadelphia, 1740-60.
Height 41 inches x Width 20 inches x Depth 16 inches
This Philadelphia side chair has an arched and incised crestrail above a vase-form splat, all above graceful compass-form rails which hold a slip seat. The cabriole legs are distinguished by carved lappets at the knees and by raised panels above the pointed slipper feet, all characteristic of chairmaking in Philadelphia in the Queen Anne period.
