These lithographs are from an important flora of Java by Karl (Carl) Ludwig Blume. Karl Ludwig Blume was a German-born Dutch botanist, whom traveled and studied the botanicals of the Dutch East Indies, particularly Java. From 1823 to 1826 Blume was Deputy Director of Agriculture at the botanic garden in Bogor (Buitenzorg) in Java.He later returned to the Netherlands where he became the the Director of the Rijksherbarium (state herbarium) at Leiden.
