Audubon's Birds of America: Framed Fine Art Prints
Fine art prints after John James Audubon
Audubon's The Birds of America is one of the great achievements in natural history and in American art. Engraved and hand-colored in London by Robert Havell Jr. and published between 1827 and 1838, its 435 plates show more than a thousand birds, drawn life-size on double elephant folio sheets. Where a bird was too tall for the page, Audubon bent its neck to keep it true to size.
Arader Galleries Saint Helena offers fourteen of these plates as framed, high-quality fine art prints of the full sheets as published, ready to hang. They are prints after Audubon, not the original hand-colored engravings. Each is $850 framed, in the Georgetown moulding: a gold finish with a reeded face and beaded inner lip. Framed size is 25.75 x 33.75 inches (the horizontal plates are 33.75 x 25.75 inches).
The birds: Sandhill Crane, Brown Pelican, Whooping Crane, Wood Ibis, American Flamingo, Great Blue Heron, Great White Heron, White Heron, Snowy Egret, Louisiana Heron, Roseate Spoonbill, White Pelican, Yellow-crowned Heron and Black-billed Cuckoo. Whooping Crane and Wood Ibis make a handsome pair.
